Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Task Force
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) refers to
birth defects caused when a woman drinks alcohol while
she is pregnant. The more alcohol a woman drinks, the more likely
she is to have a baby with FASD. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
is the #1 totally preventable cause of developmental disabilities. The major thrust of the Task force is prevention of FAS and being a source of resources for Monroe County. The Task Force meets at noon on the 3rd Tuesday of the last month of each quarter in the Monroe County Health Department's conference room.

- To do what is possible to keep existing services in place and ensure that they are being carried out effectively;
- To work toward restoring any lost services;
- To aid those who have been denied services;
- To learn and to disseminate information that helps to achieve the above.
